Whiting
are not commonly captured whilst wreck fishing. It is not a fish you can target,
however those that are captured near on on wrecks tend to be large fish.
Whiting are voracious feeders are usually captured in numbers. The best tackle
to use is baited mackerel feathers. They can however make a mess of your end
tackle should you let the line go slack and you usually end up with them coming
to the boat like a "bunch of bananas".
REEF FISHING
Whiting can be found over the reefs at certain times of the year, but usually
prefer the sandy outcrops between rocks and ledges. As a shoaling species , when
they are found they will be captured in numbers.
As
a specie whiting are a table delicacy nowadays, but where originally associated
as a fish you fed to your cat.
Best baits for catching whiting are really any fish bait. When on the feed
whiting will just about anything offered.
